How far is Tullahoma from Wartrace?

About 19.2 miles. The route is SR-64 out of Wartrace and then US-41A, and it takes around 25 minutes, so a call at lunch can be a visit the same afternoon if the schedule is open. Tullahoma straddles Coffee County and Franklin County, which is worth knowing when a permit comes up.

Houses from the late 1970s

The Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 estimates give Tullahoma a median year built of 1977 and count 392 mobile homes among 9,265 housing units, about 4 percent. A house from the late 1970s has had time to wear out more than one outdoor unit. When the one there now fails, the honest conversation is repair against replacement, with the price of each on the table. Misti T. wrote about the kind of straight talk we mean. When a part was short, Tyler actually recommended a larger competitor that he thought might have the part in stock. She stayed with us anyway.

AEDC, Woods Reservoir and the weather

Tullahoma is home to the Arnold Engineering Development Complex, the flight-simulation test complex that Woods Reservoir was built to cool. The city’s own weather runs a little gentler than Bedford County’s in summer. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Tullahoma give a mean July high of 87.3°F, about two degrees under the Shelbyville station, and the same 28.9°F mean January low. Two degrees doesn’t change much for an air conditioner; it still runs hard through July, and January nights below freezing are why a heat pump here gets sized for both ends of the year.

The rebate on a new heat pump

TVA’s EnergyRight heat pump rebate pays $500 at 15 SEER2 and $800 at 17 SEER2, and the unit has to be installed and submitted by a Quality Contractor Network member. Check the name on your power bill first, then ask us whether we can file the rebate on a Tullahoma install.

A mini split for a bonus room or a duct problem can usually wait for a weekday morning. A dead air conditioner in July shouldn’t, and the phone is answered from 8 AM to 8 PM all seven days.

Questions people ask

Tullahoma: questions

How far is Tullahoma from Wartrace?

About 19.2 miles, or 25 minutes, by SR-64 and then US-41A. That’s the drive Bush’s Mechanical makes from our base on Sunset Blvd for every Tullahoma call. With the phone answered from 8 AM to 8 PM all week, a morning call can often be looked at the same day.

What SEER2 rating do I need for the TVA heat pump rebate?

At least 15 SEER2. TVA’s EnergyRight program pays $500 on a heat pump rated 15 SEER2 or higher and $800 at 17 SEER2 or higher, and the unit has to be installed and submitted by a member of its Quality Contractor Network. In Tullahoma, ask your contractor up front whether they’re a member.

Is Tullahoma in Coffee County or Franklin County?

Both. Tullahoma straddles the line between Coffee County and Franklin County, which matters when you need to know which office handles a permit for your address. We drive to houses on either side of that line from Wartrace, about 25 minutes away, and confirm the issuing office before permitted work.

Does Tullahoma get as hot as Murfreesboro in summer?

A little less. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals put Tullahoma’s mean July high at 87.3°F against 89.2°F at the Murfreesboro station, and Tullahoma’s mean January low, 28.9°F, is a bit milder than Murfreesboro’s 27.5°F. Either way, July afternoons in the high 80s keep an air conditioner busy.

Can you replace the AC in a 1970s house in Tullahoma?

Yes. Tullahoma’s median home was built in 1977, per the Census Bureau, and a replacement in a house that age should start with a look at the ducts and the electrical circuit, since both were sized for whatever was there before. Then the new system is matched to the house as it is now.
